Let’s be honest, Ben Affleck’s Batman was one of the best parts of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. At least, this is a popular opinion. Justice League be will the second film that will carry his portrayal of Batman. Third, if we include Suicide Squad, however, he was in the film for a total of 35 seconds, so even Ben Affleck asked jokingly: “Do I get credit for the Suicide Squad gross?” Affleck will no doubt have a major role in Justice League. He is, after all, the catalyst that unites the team. (Superman’s death inspired him, so Clark Kent gets a bit of credit there too).
A major lie that even Batman tells himself is that he works alone.
But his Robins, Alfred, Superman, and Wonder Woman can see right through that. Batman from Justice League will learn to be a team player. The Oscar-winning star explains in an interview with EW:
He’s put in this position of having to reach out, find other people, convincing them to do something. Part of the drama of the movie is the question of whether or not the team is going to come together. It’s very different from the tenor of the last movie.
Affleck goes on further:
BvS departed a little bit from the traditional Batman. He started out with all this rage directed at Superman, because of his coworkers who had died in the fight Superman had with Zod. He was holding on to a lot of anger, in a little bit of an irrational way. Whereas this is a much more traditional Batman. He’s heroic. He does things in his own way, but he wants to save people, help people.
He wants to return to the core values of who Batman truly is. It is true that we received a harsher Batman, who had barely a line preaching justice in Batman v Superman. Bringing values such as justice and family is a major foundation of the character.
This is more in keeping with the canon of how Batman’s usually been portrayed, and how he’s portrayed vis a vis the Justice League in the comics. This is more the Batman you would find if you opened up your average Batman comic book.
‘Not that it’s average,’ I think it’s a really cool story. Actually, it’s sort of a story about multilateralism. It’s not a bad theme to have!
A significant reason why Affleck is made for this role is his connection and care for the character. He brings in aspects at times media overlooks. He is more than just a brooding, dark knight who enjoys pummeling the baddies and Bruce Wayne does more than just bring home women. The cast of Justice League already appears to have great chemistry, and Gal Gadot, Ben Affleck, and Henry Cavil have not let us down. Justice League, directed by Zack Snyder, will open in theaters November 17th, 2017.
