At the 89th Annual Academy Awards, Suicide Squad won an Oscar for Achievement in Makeup and Hair-styling.
The Oscar awarded Suicide Squad cast members Alessandro Bertolazzi, Giorgio Gregorini, and Christopher Allen Nelson. This is the first Oscar win for the the three. The film beat out the other two contenders for the award, A Man Called Ove and Star Trek Beyond.
Some minor social media complaints sprung up on Twitter about how the critically-bashed Suicide Squad won an Oscar over other similar comic book films like Deadpool. Keep in mind, the film does not just feature Harley Quinn and the Joker’s white complexion, but also had makeup jobs for characters like Killer Croc or El Diablo. Say what you will about the movie, but Killer Croc’s makeup was spot-on.
So congrats to the film makeup crew on Suicide Squad on their win!
