The beautiful thing coming out of The Dark Knight comic book is that Gregg Hurwitz is writing it! He deconstructs and rebuilds the characters making them believable in the real world. Hurwitz gives a reason to the madness of phenomenal characters such as The Penguin in Pain & Prejudice, which was an amazing portrayal of The Penguin in my opinion. Hurwitz is doing Batman: The Dark Knight read a quote by Hurwitz on his direction of the comic book:
Well, both Finch (artist) and I (Hurwitz) wanted to do something new with the title, but something that was still in keeping with “The Dark Knight” concept – to show some of the darker corners of Gotham, to dig into the psychology of the characters, to flirt a bit with horror here and there while maintaining a fast, actiony pace. After doing a miniseries on the Penguin, I wanted to explore the Scarecrow in equal fashion, but I realized that in exploring the Scarecrow, I’d have to explore Bruce Wayne/Batman in similar fashion, so it was suited to a Bat book rather than another mini.
An awesome break down of both the villain and the hero. The beauty about horror is that it’s all in your head, it takes others’ fears and turns it on them. Hurwitz is definitely going for the gold here! David Finch (artist of Batman: The Dark Knight) has tons of room to play with panels and perspectives to entice fear into the comic book readers. Surely, October can’t come any sooner. In The Dark Knight #12
It’s interesting how Hurwitz will be using feelings in Scarecrow’s story arc. This was found in the interview. Scarecrow is all about inflicting pain onto others making them feel what they do not want to feel. This can be said about Batman who has been emotionless, or has little to none feelings for people and things. So, the fact that Scarecrow is the opposite of Batman in this case makes this such a compelling story to tell in Batman: The Dark Knight. Ever so exciting! Batman: The Dark Knight might be another comic book that will hit as high as Detective Comics and Batman coming this October.
