Colin Farrell won the Golden Globe award for the Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Limited Series for his role as the Penguin.

Farrell received the accolade at the 2025 Golden Globe awards ceremony. He made it no secret that he felt that a huge part of his success as the Penguin was the transformative prosthetics makeup routine that he had to do. It took three hours a day to fit him with the prosthetics. Farrell jokingly downplayed his part in the makeup routine, stating how he was practically hanging out while the prosthetics team did their work.

“In the morning, I drank black coffee, listened to 80s music, and I became a canvas for that team’s brilliance. Thank you for employing me. And yeah, I guess it’s prosthetics from here on out.”

Colin Farrell winning the award gives more credibility to The Penguin. His win was the only one for the Max original series. The Golden Globes also nominated Penguin for Best Limited Series and Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Limited Series. Unfortunately, they lost out to other nominees.

Colin Farrell Joins a Cohort of Award-Winning Batman Villains

Farrell winning shows something of an awards streak for Batman rogues.  Previously, Joaquin Phoenix the Oscar for Best Actor won as the Joker. Additionally, Heather Ledger posthumously the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor also as the Joker from The Dark Knight.

When a reported noted that in a post ceremony interview, Farrell quickly praised his villains cohorts.

“[Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix are] for my money, the most extraordinary, talented and gifted and just brilliant artists in film that I’ve ever had the fortune to observe and be affected by. What Heath did in Chris Nolan’s Dark Knight was extraordinary, and will live on for future generations and what Joaquin did with The Joker was as exemplified by all the awards that he won and the Oscar stuff – it was extraordinary. So to have your name thrown into, just uttered in the same sentence, as those performances – honestly, it’s lovely, but I still approach it all more from just a fan of it all.

Farrell will return as the Penguin in The Batman Part II.
