James Gunn’s movies are very well known for how amazing the music they showcase is, so having him say that the Peacemaker soundtrack is his favourite means that this series will be on a whole new level, and we can’t wait!
With filming on the HBO Max series Peacemaker coming to an end, Gunn has answered a fan on Twitter asking is he had a “special fondness” for Peacemaker soundtrack.

Gunn’s soundtracks have become extremely well known since the release of Marvel’s Guardians of The Galaxy (2014) which featured hits from the ’60s and ’70s such as “Hooked on a Feeling” by Blue Swede, “Come and Get Your Love” by Redbone and “Cherry Bomb” by The Runaways. 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 came with the same era of music with the songs “Fox on the Run” by Sweet, “Come a Little Bit Closer” by Jay and the Americans and “Surrender” by Cheap Trick. The soundtracks for these movies were huge hits with fans and remain extremely memorable. I don’t think anyone can hear “Hooked on a Feeling” without picturing Star-Lord dancing with a rat thing now.
Gunn’s upcoming DC Extended Universe film The Suicide Squad also appears to be going for a 1970s feel, with its first official trailer featuring the song “Dirty Work” by Steely Dan, which released on the band’s 1972 debut album Can’t Buy a Thrill. The Suicide Squad producer Peter Safran has described the DC film as a “gritty 1970s war movie,” with Gunn himself likening the film to 1960s releases like The Dirty Dozen and The Great Escape.
With these amazing soundtracks already out there, the one set forPeacemaker sounds to be in a whole other league.
The Suicide Squad is set to release in cinemas and on HBO Max on August 6th.
Produced and written by James Gunn, Peacemaker stars John Cena, Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Annie Chang, Lenny Jacobson, Chris Conrad, Chukwudi Iwuji, Alison Araya, Lochlyn Munro, Elizabeth Faith Ludlow, Rizwan Manji and Christopher Heyerdahl. The spinoff series is set to premiere on HBO Max in early 2022.
