DC Showcases Variant Covers for ‘Batman’ Relaunch

DC Comics will relaunch Batman in September with a new creative team and a ton of variant covers.

As previously reported, Matt Fraction and Jorge Jiménez is the new creative team. They will relaunch Batman with a new issue number one come September 3rd. DC is celebrating the new creative shift with new variant covers and special ways to commemorate.

‘Batman #1’ Variant List

Jorge Jiménez illustrated the main cover for Batman #1. It will come in a standard cover for $4.99 and a special foil edition for $7.99 USD.

Additionally, Batman #1 will have cardstock variant covers the most acclaimed comic book artists in comics. The roster includes Jim Lee, Marc Silvestri and Arif Prianto, J. Scott Campbell, Frank Quitely, Gabriele Dell’Otto, Julian Totino Tedesco, Andy Kubert (1:25 incentive variant), and David Aja (1:50 incentive variant). There is also a new Bat-Logo variant cover and a blank sketch cover. The cardstock variants are available for $5.99.

On top of that, there is a  premium “DC Showcase” wraparound variant cover by Stanley “Artgerm” Lau. It will retail at $24.99.

For the fans who are super art enthusiasts, DC is offering a Giant-Size Special Edition of Batman #1 in a massive full-color 11″ x 17″ art board trim size format. Batman #1 Giant-Size Special Edition will have a standard card stock main cover for $14.99 or an open-to-order foil edition for $19.99 US.

Finally, if you want to gamble a little bit, there is also a “Blind as a Bat” polybag blind bag. The blind bag will randomly have a foil version of one of the cardstock variants by the above-mentioned artists. The Blind as a Bat polybag editions go for $9.99.

A New Logo for a New Era

Beyond the bells and whistles of the variant covers, check out the new logo and corner box. The new logo features a seemingly-modified Bat-symbol, with the words “Batman” conforming to the shape of it. The corner box also has a little Batman that harkens back to the Batman corner box from 90’s era comics. This new trade dress is leaning into Matt Fraction’s pop art, retro take on the character. Notice how Batman’s costume color scheme has shifted back to light blue and grey.
