Ad Agency Breaks Down ‘State Farm’ Batman Commercial

The ad agency of the hilarious ‘Batman vs. Bateman’ State Farm commercial talk about how the TV spot was made.

This was the brainchilld of Chicago-based ad agency Highdive.  It was initially planned for the Super Bowl. It was to highlight how State Farm Insurance and other insurance agencies is similar to being rescued by Batman versus the lesser-crimefighter Bateman aka actor Jason Bateman. Beyond seeing Batman, his rogues gallery, and Jason Bateman, the ad also featured a bunch of celebrity cameos, including SZA, Kai Cenat and Jordan the Stallion.

 

The commercial team utilized special effects, makeup, and costuming to get the ad made in a quick turnaround. Highdive’s CCO Chad Broude also discussed how  committed were to being as authentic to the comic book source material as possible. 

“James Lee, our creative director on the project, spent hours of time working with [VFX house] Parliament to perfect every little detail of Gotham City and the Batmobile. James also collaborated closely with wardrobe and make-up to nail every super villain’s look. Emily Sander (ECD) and Ben Doesell’s (CD) work on the script, especially their focus on capturing each Batman character’s essence, including The Joker’s iconic laugh, was all in commitment to creating an authentic experience for fans.”

Broude could not be more proud of his work. He reported that the fan reaction has been overwhelming.

“And the response from fans has been incredible, with so much appreciation for the great lengths we took to ensure everything was accurate.”
