Joker: Folie à Deux Begins Filming In LA

Joaquin Phoenix has been spotted running through the streets of Los Angeles with film crews, which can only mean one thing: filming of Joker: Folie à Deux has moved to LA!

Dressed in a dirty suit and wearing faded clown makeup, the Joker’s back, and the chaos has started.

The streets of 8th and Broadway were closed to the public as production covered the streets in waste and rubbish, and they got a familiar graffitied phone booth, that some fans may recognize, into position. Posters, advertisements, and cars from the 80s color the streets with a couple of Gotham City emergency vehicles dotted about.

It must have been quite the sight for the residents of LA. Phoenix was spotted wearing a grey suit and yellow shirt covered in dust and ash, with barely-there clown makeup and, noticeably, bleeding from his ear. He has also been photographed with someone wearing his iconic suit and makeup from the first movie. It has everyone wondering what could possibly be in store for us when the movie is eventually released.

In this clip, which was shared on Twitter, Phoenix is seen exiting a car and running through traffic to escape someone wearing a clown mask. The two are joined by the Joker himself, wearing his red suit with his bright makeup, joining the chase.

You can view the photographs here.

We see the one wearing the clown mask jump in such a way that something, probably a police car, will be CGI’d in, which the Joker look-a-like shuffles around and continues to run. Whatever is happening, whether Arthur Fleck is in too deep or his imagination is running wild, he is definitely afraid.

From the articles and magazines for the Gotham Herald around set, Joker: Folie à Deux is set in 1983, two years after the incidents of Joker. And by the look of it, a lot’s happened in Gotham City in those two years.

Filming is expected to continue in Los Angeles for the new few weeks before moving on, they are also scheduled to set up filming in New York and New Jersey this month. Todd Phillips shared a photo of Phoenix and Lady Gaga as Joker and Harley Quinn for Valentine’s day last month, and we’re now all looking forward to whatever else the director shares with us next.

Joker: Folie à Deux is set to release on October 4th, 2024.
