Catwoman #46 brings us right back to the core tale from issues past. The clarity and the tone was a little scattered in the last issue, but here the action continues right from the drop.
We frequently see Selina on the horns of many a dilemma; both her reconciling the past, handling a flame in the present, and of course, the high stakes action we know and love from Howard’s run on the series.
It’s so incredibly satisfying to see Batman and Catwoman throughout history in the opening pages of this issue. It’s so interesting and realistic for Catwoman, forty six issues later, to still be hung up on the love of her life. It’s so great seeing her in the purples (the look I grew up with) and the (not so) Dark Knight in a slightly bluer cowl, with the yellow oval around the Bat-Symbol… great memories. Their costume colours and stylings evolved over the years, but they stay true to themselves. The art team on this issue had a lot of fun with this one, it’s clear.
Catwoman’s going to extreme lengths to shake the criminal elements in her corner of Gotham in this issue. We see just how well Howard knows Selina and her means of acting to try and get a job done here, but gives us the rich and layered emotional stakes that go with being a Gotham City anti-hero.
Conclusion
Catwoman #46 gives us a rich look at Catwoman’s past and her present. This issue treats us to a deep dive into how things are in her world, and the realistic growth she’s sharing with the new character on the scene. The rich and realistic artwork gives us a portrait into a complex character in a down to earth story, hard to find in most other places in current comics.
