Originally published from 1941-1986, a brand new series of World’s Finest will launch in March 2022

The new World’s Finest series kicks off with a tale set “in the not-too-distant past,” in which Superman turns to Batman for help after receiving a dose of Kryptonite from his enemy Metallo, leading Batman to turn to “extreme measures” to help Superman with the aid of the Doom Patrol.

World’s Finest will present brand new Dark Knight/Man of Steel team-ups, written by Mark Waid with art by Dan Mora. The series will begin next year in January’s Detective Comics #1050, as one of the many backup stories in the issue. DC has also announced that World’s Finest will be ‘just the beginning’ of this great collaboration, both between creators and superheroes.

There have already been several amazing pieces of cover art released for the upcoming series. The two hilarious ‘Slap Battle’ variants of Batsy and Supes arguing over who’s name goes first were done by Chip Zdarsky. “High Five” by Evan ‘Doc’ Shaner, “Jerry Seinfeld in the Bat-Mobile Getting Coffee” by Mora himself, and more stunning covers by Jim Lee, Stanley “Artgerm: Lau, Jason Fabok and Lee Weeks are also coming.

For Waid, this is one of two major DC projects for the prolific writer/editor/executive/retailer in 2022 after he broke a 12-year-hiatus late in 2020 with a story in Dark Nights: Death Metal: The Last Stories of the DC Universe anthology. This is the man who wrote the legendary Kingdom Come, so we’re expecting great things.

We’re looking forward to seeing these two great heroes teaming up once again in March.
