Born On A Monday
Harley Quinn #4 is here! When we last left our heroine, she was faced with a villain that leaves most heroes shaking in their boots, but readers are treated to one of the most wholesome moments right at the start of Harley Quinn #4 and it is indeed probably my favorite part of the series so far.
You, Harley Quinn
Harley’s having an existential talk with Solomon Grundy over a game of chess. Granted the pieces in some cases had to be improvised, but it’s over that game in the sewer that Harley sees the light. She’s set herself a goal and standard of what being a hero is, and by chasing that ideal she’s lost who she was, and what sets her apart from all of the other heroes in the city of Gotham.
Not Proper Elevator Etiquette
One of the things I truly love about Stephanie Phillips’ version of Harley Quinn is the quirkiness and honesty. The art and colors match the scripts perfectly, so huge kudos to Riley Rossmo and Ivan Plascencia for bringing this unique vision to life. From the facial expressions to the eye catching color choices, there’s so much to take in. Scenes like Kevin’s medical journey and the elevator sequence deserve at least three look overs, just to really absorb everything.
The writing is the shining star this issue. Stephanie Phillips gives readers so many different facets of Harley Quinn. Not only do we get the heart warming scene with Harley and Grundy, but her Batman monologue is fan-f*(&*^g -tastic. Harley Quinn #4 truly encapsulates some of the best parts of the character. I can’t think of anything better to say than that.
Conclusion
With a wicked set of covers, exquisitely fun writing, killer artwork… Harley Quinn #4 is heartfelt and just plain FUN. The series is taking a deep dive into who Harley truly is… when it’s just her. Watching her gain that strength makes this series a joy and a pleasure for all Harley Quinn fans.
