Batman and The Flash seem to go hand in hand these days. It’s no secret that the Dark Knight has a big role in The Flash’s solo outing, multiple Batmen even, but it’s the relationship we first saw start to flourish in Justice League, between Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen and Ben Affleck’s Batman. This bond will play a big role in the Scarlet Speedster’s debut film, namely with a new costume for the fastest man alive, designed by Batman.
Miller’s Barry is clearly very smart, but he’s limited as to how much he can afford to do. Enter billionaire Bruce Wayne. Whether or not it was intentional, Affleck’s Bruce was set up to be a mentor of sorts to Barry. The two had great on-screen chemistry, and it just makes sense. According to The Flash directory, Andy Muschietti, The Dark Knight will be filling in the gaps for Barry and outfitting him with a new costume.
An upgrade will be nice, in Justice League: The Art of the Film, Miller had the following to say:
Barry’s sewn together layers of netting and synthetic material that can be both flexible and heat resistant. He’s trying to make something that’s aerodynamic and reduces friction as much as possible. I like the idea that he’s cobbling together this suit; it’s his DIY self-preservation suit.
While it’s very clearly “The Flash” when Barry is in the suit, it does look a bit homemade. In concept art released during DC FanDome, his new suit seems to take some inspiration from The CW’s The Flash.
While not completely clear, it appears to be more form-fitting spandex, which should increase Barry’s speed… perhaps allowing him to discover he can move so fast to time travel or open the multiverse!
