Japanese casual wear manufacturer Uniqlo have come up with the goods, when they announced the Jean-Michel Basquiat Warner Bros Collection. This collection features rare illustrations from the late artist’s work, of DC Comics characters, on various pieces of apparel.
About Jean-Michel Basquiat
1980s New York art scene wunderkind Jean-Michel Basquiat developed a distinctive iconography influenced by art history, music and pop culture. This unique UT collaboration explores the artist’s connection to DC’s beloved Super Heroes and Warner Bros.’ Looney Tunes characters that inspired Basquiat as a child, later to be featured in some of his signature artworks.
The Jean-Michel Basquiat X Warner Bros Collection will feature a number of different t-shirts and hoodies featuring Basquiat’s expressionist drawings. Hoodies of various colours will feature images of Joker, Superman, Batman, and Robin. The t-shirts will also feature an enlarged image of The Flash in action. Oh… and there’s also the WB Logo with Bugs Bunny chilling out on the top of it.
Having looked through the whole collection, I can see how these would be very popular. They sport images that are not the usual style that you might see on DC Merchandise. However, these images are unique, and because of that, Uniqlo (the name ultimately coming from ‘unique clothing’) are the perfect manufacturer to bring these to DC fans.
In fact, one of those fans, our very own Editor-In-Chief, Steve J. Ray is lucky enough to own the dark green Joker hoodie that you can see above.

It’s great having a designer like Basquiat (sounds like a supervillain) lending his talents to DC characters.
The Joker hoodie is great quality, soft, warm… and very cool. It’s one of my favourite items of clothing.
High praise indeed from one of the biggest DC comics fans I know. Based on this, I would say that the prices on offer for these items seem to be complete bargains. With the festivities just around the corner, these could well be the perfect gifts for the DC fan in your life. I love these, and my wife is now well aware of this fact. However, if anyone wants my address to have these sent to, please get in touch and I’ll be happy to oblige :0)
These hoodies and tees are all available through the Uniqlo website now and are available in adult and children’s sizes (my grandchildren are definitely having some of these).
