It’s now been well over two years since the theatrical release of Justice League. It was critically panned and wasn’t well liked by DC fans either. Even some actors on the project have expressed frustration. While promoting A Way Back, former Batman Ben Affleck spoke on his experiences. While he clearly loved his time on Batman v Superman, his expression and tone noticeably change with Justice League. He even has explained why he ultimately left the role of Batman. Now Jesse Eisenberg, Lex Luthor himself, has weighed in on the subject.
The Snyder Cut
Despite being a low point in DC’s film library, we’re still talking about the now fabled Snyder Cut to this day. The almost mythological, original cut and vision of the film by director, Zack Snyder. Before the tragic death of his daughter, before he was removed/removed himself from the project, before Joss Whedon re-wrote (and ruined?) over half the film.
This has caused the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement that stars Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa and others have actively been involved in
Almost every actor involved in Snyder’s take on the DC Universe has chimed in on the Snyder Cut, except Jesse Eisenberg… until now. The reason for Eisenberg’s silence on the subject isn’t due to being against the movement, it seems that he just straight up wasn’t aware of it.
Eisenberg explains he doesn’t like watching his own performances, so he hasn’t even seen either Batman v Superman or Justice League.
I know that I had a smaller part in one of them, but I get pretty uncomfortable watching myself. So I’m not aware of a Snyder Cut.
While Eisenberg doesn’t necessarily take sides, he had nothing but good things to say about Zack Snyder.
I’m not part of, I don’t even know what to call it: “the movement?” I like Zack Snyder and I worked with him for a while just by virtue of these movies taking so long to film. I love his style and aesthetic, and if there’s a movie he wanted to see released, I’m sure it would be great.
Is ‘The Snyder Cut’ On the Horizon?
Zack Snyder recently did a livestream director’s commentary for the fourth anniversary of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. At the end of the livestream, the director commented that someone should make a sequel to this movie before the feed cuts off.
With HBO Max scheduled to come out next month, and the Snyder Cut movement as strong and loud as ever, perhaps we won’t have to wait long for it. Since we’ll all likely still be quarantined due to COVID-19 next month, at least it will give us something new to watch!
