The upcoming live-action Titans television series has cast Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson.
Thwaites’ most recent appearance was in this past summer’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales. He will join co-stars Teagen Croft (Raven) and Anna Diops (Starfire) as part of the Titans‘s roster line-up so far.
But Which Dick Grayson?
What is unclear is which version of Dick Grayson Thwaites will play. Will he play Robin or Nightwing? Based on the casting so far, it seems the producers want a more mature tone with adult-age characters. It may not adhere to comic book continuity, but it seems more likely that Thwaites’ Dick Grayson character will dawn the famous Nightwing insignia.
Thwaites’ casting may be controversial to some fans, but others have already full-heartedly accepted him as Nightwing. Recent Google search trend data suggested a huge uptick in searches for ‘Brenton Thwaites butt’ since his casting. And if there is one thing Nightwing fans want, it is gratuitous butt shots of Dick Grayson.
The Titans show will debut sometime in 2018 as the inaugural series for the DC Comics digital platform. Greg Berlanti , Geoff Johns, Akiva Goldsman, and Sarah Schechter will executive produce it.
