Despite how you feel about the film as a whole, Ben Affleck was almost unanimously praised for his work as Batman/Bruce Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. All of the backlash and hate he got when he was originally casted seems silly now, but the man did a great job bringing a new cinematic Batman to life.
When it was finally confirmed that not only would he be starring in his own solo Batman film in the DCEU, but would be writing and directing too, people couldn’t wait to hear any new details about the upcoming project. So when Affleck seemingly titled his Batman movie The Batman, maybe we got a little too excited and jumped the gun just a little bit.
“I mentioned the other day…it’s been around for a long time, the movie…there is no Batman movie happening yet, we’re still trying to figure it out, you know, get the script and budget and all that stuff. And someone said, ‘what are you calling it?’ and I had said, like, back when we were promoting another movie, I was like ‘ we don’t have a name for it, we’re just going with The Batman or Batman movie’, and I said that, and everyone was like ‘Affleck announced the title of his Batman movie.”
This statement from Affleck stays consistent with what he has said in the past regarding not moving forward with anything until he has a script and a story that he is confident in. So it seems that The Batman is more of an in house name for the movie when they are referring to it, with no true title locked down yet.
Regardless, it would still make an awesome name for a solo Batman film. And even with no set date for the Affleck directed movie, we will have no shortage of Batman on film, with the Dark Knight appearing in next year’s Justice League.
