‘Suicide Squad’s’ Opening Numbers Smash Box Office Records

We already knew that Suicide Squad broke the Friday box office record for August. But how about the rest of the weekend?

Not surprisingly, Suicide Squad dominated, opening at number one in the box office to the domestic total of $135.1 million. This broke the previous August opening weekend record set by 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Internationally, the film opened in 57 foreign territories at $132 million. This makes the movie’s worldwide debut $267.1 million, breaking Deadpool’s previous record of $264.7 million worldwide opening set earlier this year.

While these numbers are impressive, most fans are concerned with Suicide Squad’s lasting power at the box office given its mixed reviews from critics. Will it stay around for a little bit or have a steep audience decline in its second weekend?

Suicide Squad is currently in theaters.
