We have been showcasing various retailer exclusive variant covers for The Dark Knight III: The Master Race in recent weeks, but what of standard variants? Today we have been granted our first look at Dave Gibbons’ (Watchmen) 1 in 50 variant cover for the first issue. Be sure to stop by your comic store of choice on November 25 to make sure you get a copy, should you be interested.
As you can see, Gibbons has done a rather good job of recreating an iconic pose of Batman and Robin/ Carrie Kelley. It is peculiar that all variants seem to pay homage to The Dark Knight Returns. I think part of the reason is that the story of The Dark Knight III is still rather shrouded in secrecy. One wonders if future issues will see variants that honor The Dark Knight Strikes Again.
