Oscar-nominated costume designer, Michael Wilkinson, reveals that shooting in Detroit for Batman vs. Superman will begin mid-April and end in December.

Last week, Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman costume designer Michael Wilkinson was interviewed on the red carpet, where he sorta, kinda, maybe revealed the direction in which they’d be going for Wonder Woman’s costume in Batman vs. Superman. At the time, he explained that they were attempting to make her more “relevant” and somewhat hinted at ancient Roman attire, mentioning the shields and swords.

Recently, Wilkinson appeared for a talk on costume design and his work on Man of Steel. There, he gave a perfunctory interview with HenryCavillNews. Though the questions were thoughtful enough, Wilkinson was wise to ensure that almost nothing was revealed except for a few dates and timelines. When asked about why they were tweaking Supes’s costume, his generic response was to make it better and to make it fit better in their cinematic universe. That’s about the level of depth he gave to most of his answers.

Considering all the rumors regarding the big costume reveal, it was almost obligated for them to question about when that might be. Wilkinson dodged the question without necessarily doing so. His answer? “They’ll probably be coming out before the movie’s release.” That gives us about a two year window.

The only real confirmation we’re getting is the length of preproduction, which had apparently been going on since June, as well as the approximate shooting schedule of Batman vs. Superman in Detroit. Wilkinson revealed that he will be leaving for Detroit in mid-April and will remain there until December. By the way, that’s a really long time. For reference, principal photography often averages around 3 months, depending on the scale of the movie. This also also tells us that any additional footage in Los Angeles, if they don’t choose to do it simultaneously with principal photography, will likely take place next year.

Following that, he goes on to rave about Henry Cavill at the behest of the interviewer and gave a little insight to the design process. Otherwise, there’s not much more to it. See it for yourself.
