Batman #18 could be a big issue for multiple reasons. First is more about the Batman Family reacting to Damian Wayne’s Death. Then there is the telling of the story thru Harper Row. It appears sounds like we will learn more about Harper Row this issue:
With this issue in particular, part of what we wanted to do was show how it deeply impacts the city when Batman is hurting [after the death of his son],” Snyder said. “One of the reasons I chose to use [Harper Row] as the lens for this issue is that she’s so close to the city as well, and connects down in its actual electrical grid, underneath it so much, even in its lifeblood, that when something is wrong with Batman, she’s really going to feel it.”
“Batman” No. 18 also reveals more about the character’s history, particularly her mother and father. Although readers were already introduced to Harper’s brother, a persecuted gay teen named Cullen, her parents had previously been a mystery.
“We allude to the fact that her mother was killed, and also, there’s a big mystery surrounding her mother’s background,” Snyder said. “Her father is a really nasty person who’s currently in jail. So she has no reason to love the city. She has every reason to hate it the same way Bruce does for taking his parents
Harper Row is sounding more and more like a Tim Drake style concept of her coming to save the day with Bruce like Tim did after Jason’s death, and more and more hints are coming out including June’s Detective Comics that Harper Row will be a “sidekick” at some point, but is she the next Robin. Also her origin is almost like they did with Damian in trying to mix the 1st 3 Robins into a new character. The nasty father in jail is similar to Willis Todd in the past history of Jason Todd’s Robin. The way she is trying to help Bruce is similar to Tim Drake in A Lonely Place of Dying, and I am sure there will be more comparison soon.
Snyder does reconfirm that she will have a role in Gotham:
“She’s definitely a really important character,” Snyder said. “She’s a character that means a lot to me personally, and we definitely have plans for her in Gotham.”
