Hungry Like The Wolf
Zack Snyder’s Justice League is only 7 months away. In a recent interview with UK Newspaper, The Independent, he has spoken about his part as the main villain, Steppenwolf.
The Irish actor is probably best known to us for playing Mance Ryder in Game Of Thrones, Professor Dumbledore’s brother Aberforth in Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 and Caesar in HBO’s epic Rome. All of those were great character parts, but Steppenwolf will be his first motion-capture role.
With a career spanning over three decades, it was surprising to me that I didn’t recognise his name. His face was a little familiar from Game Of Thrones, but he was under heavy makeup and a beard in Harry Potter. For his turn as Steppenwolf, he will be facing off against Batman and The Justice League via motion-capture. This is something that the actor hasn’t experienced before.
“[I’ll be wearing] a very tight and embarrassing suit covered with sensors. Basically, they’re going to construct something, digitally, and then they will use my eyes and mouth. I never read any of those comic books as a kid, so it’s all fairly new to me.”
He describes Steppenwolf as
“Old, tired, still trying to get out of his own enslavement to Darkseid, [but] he has to keep on this line to try and take over worlds.”
Hinds really is an actor’s actor. He’s a fine character player and I think he’ll capture the worlds weary Steppenwolf admirably. The only thing that could negatively impact his performance is the motion capture. In recent years, though, many actors have really done stellar work with mo-cap, like Andy Serkis’ award winning performances in The Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings trilogies.
Steppenwolf, who is Darkseid’s uncle, first appeared In issue #7 of Jack Kirby’s New Gods, in February 1972. He made a brief appearance in the Ultimate Edition of Batman Vs. Superman, but will the the main villain plaguing Batman and his Justice League colleagues in the new movie, scheduled to open in November 2017.
