Review by James Attias
Batman and Robin #23 is a tense thrill right for our dynamic duo, will they be able to find each other, or will their fractured partnerships spell their doom? Let’s dive in…
Shattered and Mended
The Dark Knight and The Boy Wonder have been struggling of late. Damian dealing with PTSD, Bruce dealing with a case from his past. Both are suffering due to the sheer chaos that is their lives. We finally get some answers this issue about the mysterious and now confirmed demonic Memento. But is it too late? One of my favourite elements of this book, is that we know Batman and Robin are not in any real danger, BUT we do get introduced to a lot of side characters, and victims, and witnesses, and possible villains. Where the dynamic duo are both safe, these characters are not. With that in mind, you may not care about these extras, but if one of them were to suffer a cruel final fate, it would change Batman and it would change Robin. That is the closest thing to reality as we can get, and I’m really enjoying it. Especially now that we’re in full on, Demons and monsters plagueing the streets.
Gonna need a Bigger Bat
With these monsters and demons now being confirmed, I have a lot of feelings. I like the idea of Batman having to fight a magic based villain, without the proverbial calling in of Zatanna every time that happens. Same as Batman: Off World showed us what Batman would be like in space, I enjoy seeing my favourite characters having to face new threats that their line of work dictates. You can’t always fight the foes that fit your skillset. That’s just for kids! This is a title for all ages. I’m a fan.
Conclusion
Batman and Robin #23 is a fun read, with something comic books definitely need!
