Review by James Attias
Nightwing #134 is a battle of good vs evil, will vs chaos… Will Nightwing be able to save the children of Blüdhaven? Let’s talk about it!
Pennywise For Your Thoughts
Nightwing has officially crossed over… He is now in the fifth dimension with super creepy villain of this run, the Zanni. He is trying to retrieve the lost children who were stolen by this circus clown of nightmare. This is a very well written and tense issue. We don’t know what could happen to Nightwing in this realm. We already know that the Zanni is not shy to killing everyone and anyone, friend or foe for its cause.
There is a great element to this issue, that when the Zanni challenges Nightwing, we don’t know if the ramifications are real, made up, or if we’ll even get to see them. The tension in this issue is palatable, and I really enjoyed reading it. Another element that I liked was seeing Oracle and Martian Manhunter in the real world, talking about where Dick was and what could be done on the outside without him. My only slight qualm with the issue was Babs and J’ohnn only using codenames… He was in her apartment and she was sitting there wearing sweatpants and she would greet him like “Hello Martian Manhunter” and his response “Let’s go Oracle” it seemed wrong to me… Call him J’ohnn! Call her Barbara! Codenames seemed very robotic.
I Want To Play a Game
The premise of this issue, once you’ve read it, is very interesting. I can’t give too much away. But please let me know in the comments if you too felt the tension that I did. What would you do if you were in Nightwing’s shoes? What did you think would happen? I for one had plenty of suggestions, but much like having a fight in a dream, sometimes the plans we want to enact don’t play out….
Conclusion
Nightwing #134 is really building up the tension for a grand pay off, I can’t wait to see what comes next, will the city ever be the same again? Until next time boy and girl wonders!
