Various popular, well-known stars either expressed interest or were rumored to be Batman for James Gunn’s new DCU movie universe.

‘I Strongly Don’t Think That Batman is in My Future’

Alan Ritchson

Reacher star Alan Ritchson opened up that he was in talks with Gunn about having a role in the DCU, specifically about playing Batman. The star was honest saying that becoming the Dark Knight seems highly unlikely for him.

“Well, it’s not rumor that James Gunn is a fan. He said it himself. And am I a fan of James Gunn? Absolutely. I don’t want to mislead people. Words have been exchanged about Batman. But I strongly don’t think that Batman is in my future. I do think there is something in my future with DC. And I would like that to remain true.”

Ritchson was the fan favorite rumored front runner for the Batman role. Ritchson has expressed multiple times wanting to play the Caped Crusader. However, despite talking to Gunn, it seems like the DC Studios co-president is looking for a different direction for Batman.

Chris Pratt Will Not be Batman

Chris Pratt

In other news, Gunn revealed that he also wants his Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt have a DCU role. However, when a fan asked him if Pratt could take on the cape and cowl, Gunn also noted that is not the plan.

“As Batman? No. As something else? Yes.”

Tyler Hoelchin Throws His Hat into the Ring

Tyler Hoechlin

Perhaps the most amusing actor who is rumored to play Batman is former Superman actor Tyler Hoechlin. At a recent FAN EXPO Canada, Hoechlin talked about Robert Pattison’s portrayal of Batman. Then he let the crowd in a on a secret: he wants to play Batman for himself.

Well, selfishly, I’m going to say no [Pattison’s Batman doesn’t fit into the DCU continuity], because I still want to play Batman. I think and I say that Rob did a fantastic, fantastic job and [with] Matt Reeves it was great. So I’m happy to let them keep doing their thing, and maybe leave the door open…

Interestingly, this is not the first time that Hoechlin mentioned playing Batman. In 2021, he mentioned that he grew up wanting to play Batman instead of Superman. At least the man is consistent.

While any of these stars would be amazing as the Dark Knight, it seems like the search is still out for the next Batman actor. So far, fans have only seen Batman in glimpses and cameos in  Creature Commandos The DCU version of Batman will make his first full appearance in Batman: The Brave and the Bold. However, director Andy Muschietti reported that there have been delays. So who knows when that we will see the Batman in the new DCU cinematic universe.
