Batman and Robin #14 is the new start for the dynamic duo, we’re ALL IN. With a new creative team, new villains and an old foe lurking in the shadows? Let’s Kaboom in!
Kids Table
When you’re one of the world’s deadliest fighters, have one of the most brilliant detective minds on the planet. You’ve fought god’s, monsters and even died. But sitting at the kids table, that must hurt. Damian Wayne, who by my calculations is 14 years old in current continuity. In the last story, it seemed he was maturing and becoming a young adult, this new team seems to have reverted him a little bit backwards towards his bratty era, but it’s only been one issue, so we’ll see how it goes. This story looks to kick things off with a lot of fresh faces, which is always nice, bringing in elements of the past: of Bruce, his training, his parents, and the present, mentioned events that happened in last week’s issue of Poison Ivy! I love that sort of storytelling, after 80 years of the character, it’s a real challenge to keep things fresh!
Darkness is All The Mask I Need
The art in this issue took me a second to get used to, the scenes of Batman, Robin, superheroes and villains, were great, very good use of movement and shadows. However the scenes of Bruce and Damian look a lot less detailed, I don’t know if this was a creative choice, but it worked for me in the end. I do love the details so hopefully with time, Bruce and Damian will get their eyebrows back, until then. I didn’t mind it. Some scenes of Batman in this were second to none.
Conclusion
Batman and Robin #14 was a great leap into the new ALL IN era, and a new interesting story was the perfect way of doing it. Can’t wait to see which direction this takes us in.
