James Gordon actor Jeffrey Wright has given a very brief update on what’s happening with The Batman: Part 2.

In a red-carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight, Wright confirmed that he hasn’t seen the script yet.

You’ve seen as much of a script as I have at this point. I don’t want to jump ahead. I just want to go forward with it.”

Presumably his comments about not wanting to “jump ahead” mean that he doesn’t want to presume what his role in Part 2 will be. At the end of The Batman, Gordon’s still a police lieutenant, so will he be promoted to the rank of commissioner in the sequel?

Clearly, I’m Lieutenant Gordon at the end of the film, the first film, so we may be moving up in the ranks, I suppose, but I haven’t seen anything yet. I’m being patient, letting Matt Reeves do his thing — which is going to be magical and wonderful — and looking forward to diving back into it when the time comes.”

Yes, Jeffrey Wright. You can be patient, but Bat-fans are highly anticipating what happens next in the series.

‘The Batman: Part 2’ Filming Date

Meanwhile, Superherohype reports that Part 2 will start filming in August 2024. This seems like a really long stretch of time between now and production. However, the script clearly hasn’t been finalized yet so director Matt Reeves probably needs a huge lead time to rewrite and cast.

The bigger question is if the sequel will meet its October 2025 release date. A little over a year to shoot, edit, input visual effects, and score a massive movie like Batman isn’t a lot of time. Will Reeves make the crunch? Or will we possibly see the release pushed back at some point?

The Batman: Part 2 is currently set for release on October 3, 2025.
