Actor Robert Pattinson has shared an amusing anecdote about hiding his Batman audition, while filming Tenet.

In an interview with The Irish Times, Pattinson recounted how he tried to sneak away to do his Batman audition. While filming the movie Tenet, Pattinson attempted subterfuge with the movie’s director Christopher Nolan. Pattinson claimed he had a family emergency, when he was actually auditioning for the Dark Knight role.

However, Nolan saw through the deception immediately and asked him if he was going to a Batman audition.

Here’s Robert Pattinson on his failed lie.

It’s funny because Chris is so secretive about everything to do with his movies, and then I had to be really secretive about Batman stuff. So I had to lie to Chris about having to go for a screen test – I said I had a family emergency, and as soon as I said it he said: “You’re doing the Batman [audition], aren’t you?”

Christopher Nolan’s Batman

As Bat-fans know, the story takes on an extra layer of irony. Nolan created the popular Dark Knight trilogy back in the mid to late 2000’s, so it’s highly amusing to imagine that the new Batman actor felt the need to lie to the previous Batman director.

Now the question remains, how does Nolan feel about Pattinson getting the part of the Caped Crusader? Does the acclaimed director have any thoughts on the upcoming The Batman movie?

Tenet comes to theaters in America on September 3, 2020, and The Batman hits theaters on October 1, 2021.
