Batfleck Gives Worrying Status, Won’t Make ‘The Batman’ If It’s Not Good

Happy New Year, Batfans! Hoping that you are able to achieve your dreams this year.

Unfortunately, I’m bringing some unfortunate news regarding the upcoming, tentatively titled The Batman. The film is hotly anticipated as it will be written and directed by, and star Ben Affleck. Due to the high profile role, while on press tours for other movies, the 44 year old Bostonian is often asked about the status of the film. Most times he answers with relative vagueness, but remains firm that he will make a good Batman movie.

Most recently, two weeks ago, he spoke with Entertainment Weekly and informed them about the same thing, parroting the same response to journalists all over. However, today, the Guardian managed an interview with Batfleck, wherein they discussed his career at great length. At the tail end of the article, Affleck mentions something very alarming. It seems he spoke a little candidly regarding the status, almost from a place of frustration.

Batfleck said, “But it’s not a set thing and there’s no script. If it doesn’t come together in a way I think is really great, I’m not going to do it.

This raises so many questions. From what I know, the film was not only given the green light ages ago, but the rumors are that they are pushing the flick for an earlier release. For him to say that it’s not certain, contradicts most of everything we thought we knew about the film already. Also, he’s been reassuring journalists for some time now about how he’s working on the script, but it’s either that was all talk and nothing more, or the script was recently thrown out.

It’s great to hear that Affleck remains as steadfast as ever regarding a Batman movie that’s worth a damn, but it’s a little disconcerting to see that it’s just not ready yet. Here’s to hoping that they can get to work on a good Batman film this year.

It’s either that or the journalists (myself included) are really blowing his quote out of proportion again.

What do you think? A little apprehensive about production? Or do you have confidence in Batfleck? Let me know!
