For some time there have been rumors that the upcoming sequel to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice would no longer be named Justice League Part One. Since Dark Knight News does not report on rumors, we decided to wait for DC Entertainment to announce something official. Adam Poncharoensub reported for Dark Knight News on June 5th about what DC chief creative officer, Geoff Johns, posted on his Twitter account this weekend:

While this may not be the most revolutionary title, it may provide some insight into the film when combined with what Chris Terrio had to say to The Wall Street Journal about the upcoming film:.
“Batman v Superman is a bit of an Empire Strikes Back or Two Towers or any similar middle film in a trilogy. The middle film tends to be the darkest one. I do think from Man of Steel through Justice League, it is one saga really. I expect Justice League will be tonally not quite as dark as Batman v Superman. From that point of view, I felt compelled to go back and try to lift us and myself into a different tonal place because I think when you write a darker film, sometimes you want to redeem it all a bit.”
Many fans have worried that the super team movie would not be a ‘complete’ film if the title already suggests that it is only half a story line. Chris Terrio’s comments, on top of Geoff Johns’ tweet, seem to give credence to the idea that the first Justice League film will have a plot within itself instead of an incomplete first half of a story. Terrio’s further comments on the fact that he is only writing the first Justice League film:
“I have written Justice League Part One, but I won’t necessarily write Part Two. This has been the most rigorous intellectual exercise I’ve had in my writing life. For Justice League, I could be reading in the same day about red and blue shifts in physics, Diodorus of Sicily and his account of the war between Amazons and Atlanteans, or deep-sea biology and what kind of life plausibly might be in the Mariana Trench.”
If Terrio is only writing the first film, his comments seem to make sense that it would be more of a trilogy conclusion than half a story. Justice League is set to release on November 17, 2017.
