Batman and Superman are forever connected in the DC Universe. Friends, confidants, and sometimes enemies, these two are the shining examples of what it means to be a Superhero in the DC Universe, and their relationship formed the backbone of a lot of great Batman and Superman ongoings. Their last ongoing, Superman/Batman was ended after Flashpoint rebooted the DCU into the DCnU, but they are finally back in a new ongoing titled Batman/Superman.  Writing the new book is Greg Pak, known for his work on the Incredible Hulk and other Marvel titles, and was interviewed on what he has planned for the Dark Knight and the Man Of Steel. When asked on what he was excited to tackle first, he spoke on how he’s going to write the earlier stories between Batman and Superman.

“What would your reaction be if you saw a guy running around in a bat costume in the dead of night attacking people for the first time? And what would your reaction be if you met an alien who could crush steel in his bare hands for the first time?…These guys are going to have very different immediate impressions of each other than we’re used to seeing with these characters.”

When pressed for details about the villains for the book, and the reason for their new partnership that we have briefly seen in issues like Action Comics, and Justice League, Park replied with a vague answer, saying that it was a threat that brings them together, and one that comic book fans will be “very pleasantly excited when they find out about it.”

Also on the book is artist Jae Lee, who had previously done art for Batman during the Batman: Jekyll and Hyde miniseries and had also done the art for the recent miniseries Before Watchmen: Ozymandias. While Jae Lee was not a part of the interview, Pak had a few things to say about his new partner for Batman/Superman.

“The idea of Jae Lee drawing Batman is sort of a no-brainer. That makes total sense…he’s doing some cool new stuff and when you put these two characters together, they’ve got different palettes and environments.”

At the end of the interview, Pak hinted that the story will have a large impact on the DCnU at large. While the earlier stories will take place during the period after Superman and Batman met in the first arc of Justice League, it will have impacts on the present DC universe.

“We’re going to start in the past but it’ll reverberate through. It’ll be big and crazy and tons of fun.”

Batman/Superman will debut in June of this year, and will serve to show the beginnings of the DCnU’s new age of Heroes.
