Ben Affleck’s Batman is one of the few universally acclaimed aspects of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It stands to reason that DC fans are waiting for the writer/director’s take on the Caped Crusader. WB is aware of the anticipation and is aiming to fast-track the flick, likely for a 2018 release.
And everybody wants to know every little update regarding it.
Entertainment Weekly‘s print edition ran their 2016 Entertainers of the Year feature, wherein they briefly spoke with Batfleck. Seemingly exasperated with all the questions regarding it, Affleck gave a pretty succinct answer:
“I’m still working on the script. I’m not going to write and direct anything that I don’t think is good enough to be made. I’m definitely going to make sure I have something that is special—there’s not enough money in the world to make a mediocre version of Batman worth it.”
That should be enough to quell many dubious Batfans out there. If I were him, I’d tire of fielding all the questions as well. but he’s got to give an answer, right? People want to see him take on the Bat. And I’m sure he’s appreciative of the opportunity to make this movie.
In another small development in Batfleck’s Batman flick, Jeremy Irons, the actor who played Alfred Pennyworth in BvS, made a few comments about his character. In my opinion, Irons is pretty underrated in his portrayal of the snarky, but extremely loyal butler. He really helped to replace any old portrayals of Alfred in my head. At the same time, he made the character just a little more badass than they’ve portrayed him in previous movies.
Though Alfred will be returning in Justice League, it will be in a very limit capacity due to the 7 superheroes that will be making appearances. In an interview with Cinemablend.com, he somewhat lamented the limited role in Justice League. This caused him to ask Affleck about his role in the tentatively titled, The Batman.
Irons says:
“I have spoken to Ben. In Justice League, we have seven superheroes, and that means Alfred’s not that busy in the movie, and I said to Ben, ‘I hope I’m busier in yours.’ And he said to me, ‘You will be.’ He knows my proclivities.”
Sounds promising, indeed.
Justice League hits theatres on November 17, 2017. The Batman is expected to be released some time in 2018.
