The owner of the Mentmore Towers- the filming location of Wayne Manor in 2005’s Batman Begins-needs to do a bat survey or risk losing their property.
Yes, file this story under “Irony” or “Life Imitates Art”. The real-life Wayne Manor has a bat problem. The Mentmore Towers are a part of the Buckinghamshire stately home located in England. But over the years, the owner has let the mansion fall into a state of disrepair. The Towers are not an actual living quarters for anyone currently and are mostly vacant, unless a movie production wants to rent it for a shooting location. Outside of Batman Begins, it was also in 2001’s The Mummy Returns and 2026’s Pressure.
However, the Buckinghamshire Council reported the property with multiple safety violations that require immediate repairs, including failing masonry, water seeping in, and- of course- bats.
The Council instructed that the current owner needs to get a licensed bat ecologist to do a a bat survey of the property within a month’s time or they risk losing the property.
The Mysterious Owner of the Real-Life Wayne Manor
It seems like the Mentmore Towers are owned by some foppish investor named Simon Halabi. A cursory Google search shows that Halabi is an ultra-rich Syrian billionaire who bought Mentmore Towers with the intent of converting it into a luxury hotel. Or that is what Halabi’s Wikipedia reports. For all we know, he could secretly be a night-time vigilante who strikes fear into the hearts of criminals. Perhaps, with the news of possibly losing the property, Halabi will hold a party, then have a terrorist ninja organization led by a possibly-immortal Liam Neeson burn it to the ground. Oh, and blame the fire on his drunken incompetence to protect his secret identity.

Or he is just some billionaire who makes a lot of promises, avoids paying his workers, and gets convicted of sexual assault. Sigh…
