Charles Dance in Talks to Play Harvey Dent’s Father

Charles Dance is reportedly casted in the role of  Harvey Dent’s father for The Batman Part II.

Dance’s Christopher Dent role will allegedly play a major part in the upcoming sequel. If Dance is casted for the role, he will join returning Batman actor Robert Pattinson. Dance will also be a part of the Dent clan with Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent himself and Scarlett Johansson as Gilda Gold/ Dent.

 Acting Credits of Charles Dance

Dance is probably best known as Tywin Lannister in HBO’s Game of Thrones.  However his acting credits range from both genre pictures, as well as straight dramatic roles. He was also in Alien 3, The Imitation Game, Gosford Park, The First Omen, The Day of the Jackal. Most recently, Dance played Dr. Frankenstein’s father in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein.

The Secret Origin of Christopher Dent

Christopher Dent plays a small, but pivotal role in shaping Harvey Dent’s journey to transforming into the villain Two-Face. Christopher was an abusive, alcoholic father of the younger Dent. He also suffered from an undisclosed mental illness, which undoubtedly was passed down to Harvey. Eventually, the senior Dent was committed to Arkham Asylum where Harvey would occasionally check-in on him as a successful district attorney. While Dent had a successful career, he was forever haunted by his father’s abusive influence on him. In some versions of the comic book lore, Christopher Dent is also responsible for giving Harvey the double-headed coin that eventually becomes Two-Face’s trademark accessory.

Reportedly the role of Christopher Dent was difficult to cast. Multiple big name actors turned down the role, included but not limited to: Brad Pitt, Stellan Skarsgård, and Daniel Craig. Now it seems that they have settled with Charles Dance.

The Batman Part II will reportedly start production in Summer 2026 and will hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
