Thomas Wayne actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan surprised fans when he said that there were plans for him to play the Flashpoint version of Batman.
In an interview to promote The Walking Dead: Dead City, Morgan talked about how Batman v Superman and Justice League director Zack Snyder’s plans. He was initially going to do more films that somehow integrated the Flashpoint crossover story line.
“Truthfully, Zack was gonna do more movies. And I think there was a time when Flashpoint Batman would have seen these two characters in a much bigger role. And that was part of the Zack world of all of it, and then I never got a chance to do that, unfortunately.”
When Thomas Wayne was Batman
Fans are aware that in the Flashpoint comics, Thomas Wayne becomes the alternate reality’s Batman and Martha Wayne becomes its version of the Joker after Bruce was killed in the mugging.
When Batman v Superman announced Morgan as Thomas, fans became excited for a possibility of him dawning the cape and cowl. However, it never came into fruition due to Warner Bros rebooting the DCEU into James Gunn’s DCU.
In the end, the opening scene of BvS was the only part that featured Morgan as Thomas Wayne.
How Accurate is Jeffrey Dean Morgan?
It is not super clear how the actor’s revelation matches up with what we know about Snyder’s cancelled vision of the DCEU. In the past, we heard that Snyder planned for Darkseid to be the main villain of the rest of the series. There also would have been plans for a dystopian future where Darkseid has taken over humanity. The dystopian Knightmare version includes a Darkseid-controlled Superman and Batman leading a rebellion.
However, it is not clear how a Flashpoint story could fit into that plot. It would be silly to have two competing dystopian futures. Can there really be two different alternate futures were Ben Affleck is Batman and the other with Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Batman?
