Whelmed
I’ll try and keep as much of the incriminating stuff out of this review, but the issue’s full of great stuff that would count as spoilerific. The Cult of Man-Bat and the Revenge of Shush are both brought to a climax in this issue.
The endings to these two stories though… just happen. It’s not with a bang, but a quiet sigh. I was expecting heaven and earth after how entertaining these stories have been.
I can’t tell if the creative team was told by the powers on high to change direction, but this ending really felt rushed and out of place. What happened, Josh Williamson? Did you fly too close to the sun?
A Tale of Two Creatives
Once again, this issue uses two separate creative teams during different parts of the book. It didn’t have the same effect as it did last issue, but it did help herald the next saga, towards the end of the book.
I’d be interested to see this technique used more creatively: like, one creative team draws Bruce Wayne and Gotham by day and the other would then show us Batman and Gotham by night. It’s just an idea… but tell me that wouldn’t be interesting?!
Conclusion
Batman and Robin #10 was a mixed bag. I was more excited by the post and mid-credit/last-page stingers than I was about the actual conclusion to two 10-part stories. Is this really the end, or just the end for now?
