The Penguin #10 has a lot to unpack, so bear with me as I try and process everything!

With Oswald’s plans seemingly coming closer to fruition, the pawns are being moved into place. The only question I have is this; is Batman a pawn, and if so who’s moving him?

The Bird Of Gotham

If this run has shown anything, it’s that those who underestimate Oswald Cobblepot regret it. Cobblepot himself, however, is playing the “aging criminal who’s past his prime” to perfection. Although no one actually believes him, they’ve got no proof to the contrary.

This is the issue where we see his true nature, though. He’s cunning and violent… Oswald Cobblepot is the bird of Gotham. Honestly, I can’t rave about how much I love seeing villainous characters in the spotlight like this, secondary characters in general need more love.

Now, I get it; we all love reading about how Batman or Superman kick butt and we enjoy a good hero’s journey, but I need the juicy parts, the tales that the hero won’t tell you; the ones that don’t line up with their story.

Rafael De Latorre is very quickly becoming my favorite comic book artist. The expressions he draws make the characters feel alive and immerse you into their world. Not only is his work beautiful, his storytelling is sublime. There have been times I’ve gasped at something he’s drawn that I was completely unprepared for.

Conclusion

The Penguin #10 is another fantastic offering from Tom King and the team. The pieces are being put into place, and now we ride it out until the end. It feels like we’re in the home stretch and I’m excited to see how all the threads tie up.
