Beat Of Your Own Drum
This issue took me a bit by surprise, as we’ve finally been given an origin for The Drummer. Since this run started I have to say that this iteration of the character was my least favorite member of the team.
I’m a spandex and cape lover (that sounds slightly off), I mean I love superheroes (who would have known), so the idea that this character doesn’t, and acts like she thinks that they’re dumb (almost in a Jessica Jones-type way) always rubbed me the wrong way. This issue gave us an explanation as to why, and it was a great one!
If you’re reading this review then you’ve probably read a few comics in your time, and have seen a few multiverse-changing events (damn it, Barry!) Now, imagine if you were a part of those worlds that kept changing (whenever the publishers wanted a shake-up) for DC I’d say that was every 5 or so years. In this issue, we get a really good first-person look at what that would be like.
World Ending
I can’t praise the creative team on this book enough, as consistency is a 10/10 for me. So, having a team on a book from start to finish, really helps me invest in a story. Even if the art isn’t always my favorite (no offense, we all have our tastes) having the same creative team month in and month out, I now associate it with this book, so if it were to change, it would feel wrong. Well done to the entire team.
This issue feels like it will lead to something bigger, and really hope that, with Absolute Power coming up, this pans out.
Conclusion
Outsiders #7 is a great read that pays off a lot of long-term comic readers’ commitment to DC. It’s a really fun read, too.
