Titans #9 is here and we have a plethora of evil going around. We also get some self-doubt, Devils, Demons, and definitely Amanda Waller. The Titans need to watch their backs.
Let’s Phwooosh in…
The Devil’s in the Detail
So, for some time now we’ve known that Raven’s being controlled by her dark sinister soul self and being groomed by Trigon to be the Dark Winged Queen… which just sounds so badass. In typical Tom Taylor fashion, though, his writing style has us hoping that the light-hearted heroes, who are a close-knit group of friends/family, will sense the evil and help to get the real Raven back.
We’re dealing with a crisis here, so the team’s currently all together (including Tempest), saving people from a storm, flood, and chaos. It’s great to read heroes being heroes, it’s my favorite recipe! Sadly though, Beast Boy has yet to be forgiven for his actions (even though they were totally out of his control) during the “Beast World” event. With Evil Raven adding fuel to the fire, our hearts go out to poor Gar.
I was very surprised by a few very powerful cameos about this issue, which I won’t ruin, but seeing this group together is like a storm warning. An event is coming and it’s going to be a big one.
This is the Lady in Charge
I feel like I always have to leave space in my reviews to discuss Amanda Waller, but in recent years she’s gone from being Suicide Squad leader to what appears to be the biggest bad in comic books. She’s moved on from manipulating crooks to running with Gods and Monsters and her character development has been insane. I can’t wait to see where it all leads.
As usual, the art and writing in this book were wonderful. I can’t stress just how much of a pleasure it is to read a book that is wonderfully drawn and written in a way that makes you feel pain, joy, and concern for the characters. Tom Taylor may have made a deal with the Devil himself, as he never misses.
Conclusion
Titans #9 is fuel being added to the fire, and this story’s building to explode. When it does, I’ll be there to review it for you, my loyal readers! Same Titans Time, Same Titans Channel.
