The espionage returns in Waller vs Wildstorm #4. Things are heating up as we come to the head of the last three issues’ story. Battalion has been gunning for Waller and her position at Checkmate is in jeopardy! Or so we’re led to believe.
The Weatherman’s Skywatch
DC has a plethora of lesser-known characters, all of whom seem to have a connection to Waller, in one way or another. Ackerman and Narcisse bring in a couple more into this issue, making them seem like big players in Checkmate’s hierarchy. What I’ve enjoyed over the last three chapters is the writing team’s way of dangling enough threads in front of us to leave us wanting more. Well, this issue does just that.
If you thought issue three was the box to keep everything together in, I’ll just let you know that this issue’s the ribbon. Ackerman and Narcisse do a fantastic job at tying up the storyline while still leaving an opportunity to tell plenty of stories in any sequel or follow-up.
The art team continues to deliver stellar work as well. Moving on from the 80s action movie theme and onto a much more typical comic style. I’m really looking forward to where they take the art next, if DC decides to continue this story.
Conclusion
Waller vs Wildstorm #4 gives us a solid end to the collection. While this comic run didn’t exactly hit the ball out of the park, it certainly batted above average. This is a nice read if you’re just looking for something to delve into a tale that’s a little different from the usual mainline comics.
