“Poison Ivy” – Chapter Fifteen

There have been so many things happening in the series lately. Right now, Ivy’s just looking for somewhere to set down some roots… pun very much intended. It looks like we will finally find out if Pammy will finally get her own space, in Poison Ivy #15.
House of Horrors
Pam’s been trying her hand at being the best detective in Gotham. Unfortunately, this seems to only be getting her into more trouble. Best to leave that to Batman I think. G. Willow Wilson is continually adding layers of character to Ivy and this issue delivers a cornucopia of craziness. The mix that Wilson’s concocted is remarkable. This is pure comic magic, mixed with a dash of realism. It tackles real-life issues, whilst being outrageously surreal.
G. Willow Wilson’s writing really comes into its own with her sublime character interactions. Everything about Pam and Croc’s chats in this issue is amazing. You can feel the history between the two, whilst they try and focus on the issues they have now. I will never understand how Wilson can create these seamless bonds between people and will never take it for granted.
Funhouse Mirrors
Marcio Takara, what a legend. So many panels in Poison Ivy #15 look insane… but in a very good way. The design of the bad guy is very on-brand for Ivy, and I was mesmerized by the few panels where Ivy and the villain were showing “their true selves”. When you add the majestic color work of Arif Prianto, you have comics that you don’t want to look away from.
Conclusion
There’s still so much that’s been left unanswered, so I can’t wait to continue this series and see where it’s going. For now, I will enjoy the fact that Poison Ivy #15 gave me a house of freakiness that I didn’t ask for and didn’t know I wanted, plus some amazing Croc moments.
You really should be reading this series… don’t make me fight you!
