Review by James Attias
Titans #3 is a sight for sore eyes after Knight Terrors, Tales of Titans, and every other book that wasn’t this one.. but, at last, we’re back in the big leagues! I mean Titans, not League… oh, you know what I mean!
So, if you cast your minds back to my last review you’ll know that there’s a new, completely untrustworthy leader of the Church of Blood, thanks to a rebrand of the Church of Eternity. Brother Eternity is here, and this guy gives me a serious “cult leader who smiles for the camera but poisons the Kool-Aid” vibes.
The villain has already enlisted a former Titan, Tempest/Gar, to join his cause. We don’t know if the hero has been coerced, or if he genuinely believes this, soon to be revealed as evil, man’s lies. Of course, the Titans aren’t falling for it. They choose to investigate this creep and his new Church…and you’ll never believe what they find…
Actually, you’ll definitely believe what they find. After a bit of sneaking around and some breaking and entering, the two covert Titans, Nightwing, and Beast Boy stumble onto a huge sinister operation that’s taking place, but not all is as it seems.
I don’t want to give too much away, as there are some reveals and some spoilers that I can’t wait for you all to read for yourselves, but rest assured this issue is beautifully written, but could have been a predictable story if not for Tom Taylor.
West and Recover
A huge plot thread that we shouldn’t forget is that Wally West’s dead body is currently sitting in the morgue of Titans… a possible Wally from the future, that is. So the Titans are on high alert as someone has killed/will kill The Flash, giving him only enough time to run to the past in an attempt to warn the team and himself. What could kill the fastest man alive? Who is powerful enough?
This issue was, as always, great fun to read. Tom Taylor never fails to write funny, engaging, and heartwarming pages. More often than not with something that will rip your heart out and have you crying like a baby. The art as well is just Super! I use that word deliberately as this is how superhero comics should be drawn, everyone looks great! Bright colors, great costumes, explosions, and fun. This is a superhero lovers comic.
Titans #3 continues the wonderful streak of this series. It’s brilliantly written, beautifully drawn, colored, and lettered, and is as engaging as ever. I can’t wait for what happens next.
