With a gameplay trailer finally being released recently, the creators of Gotham Knights have also added some Batman Beyond inspired skins for those who pre-order the Deluxe Edition. Some fans are still skeptical of what to expect from the upcoming game, but at least the new suits look awesome… mostly.
Batman Beyond was the sequel to the beloved Batman: The Animated Series. Released in 1999, this show was a completely original idea that wasn’t inspired by comics, films, or movies. Set in the future, when Bruce Wayne was too old to don the cowl any longer, the mantle was passed to Terry McGinnis, who has since become very well loved by fans. We’ve had multiple versions of him and his iconic black and red suit over the last 23 years.
Warner Bros. has announced that they will be adding a Batman Beyond suit for each of the four playable characters in the Deluxe Edition, costing $89.99, and honestly, while they aren’t as amazing as the originals, they aren’t all bad either. Tim Drake’s new look is quite a radical departure, while Jason Todd’s suit is perfect, because of its simple costume design and the fact that it’s very much like the original Terry McGinnis Batman Beyond suit. Dick Grayson’s isn’t much different from his well-known suit anyway, and Barbra Gordon’s has a golden Bat Symbol and, unlike the gents, she also has bat ears.
Fans are already umming and ahhing over whether or not to get the game since its first trailer, and the gameplay we’ve been shown hasn’t done much to change our minds. The biggest issue is that Red Hood will use magic (not like in the comics) and non-lethal bullets to take down his enemies. Fans quickly took to Twitter to express their thoughts on these decisions. Although this game does promise an interesting take on the Batman mythos, it’s still unclear how the game will turn out as it isn’t actually finished just yet.
Gotham Knights is set to release on October 25th, 2022 for Playstation 5, Xbox X/S, and PC. The PS4 and Xbox One versions were canceled earlier this month.
