JK Simmons In Talks to Return as Commissioner Gordon in ‘Batgirl’

Actor JK Simmons is allegedly in negotiations to return to the the role of Commissioner James Gordon for the Batgirl film.

Bat-Fans will recognize Simmons as Commissioner Gordon from Justice League. He had a brief, but memorable part in the theatrical cut, which was expanded in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Now it seem that the veteran actor may return as Gordon again in Batgirl.

How Likely Is JK Simmons Return as Commissioner Gordon?

Nothing’s set in stone yet, but there seem to be good signs pointing towards Simmons returning to the part. In a 2019 interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actor indicated that he has a contract for three movies. Furthermore, the ET interview revealed that he would like to playGordon again.

Flash forward to now. Leslie Grace has won the role of Barbara Gordon in the Batgirl movie. Will Simmons now return as her father and commissioner of the Gotham Police Department? Here’s hoping!

How Big Will the Commissioner Gordon Role Be?

At this point, fans can only speculate the size of Commissioner Gordon’s part in the film. However, it seems like a safe bet that it will be bigger than it was in either version of the Justice League movie, where he more or less was just there for exposition. How cool would it be to see Simmons flex his acting muscles as Gordon being a father to the titular hero? The man’s won an Oscar, so he’s definitely capable of creating dramatic scenes!

Personally, I hope we can see Simmons as a loving, but conflicted father, who’s torn between his police duties and his family.

Batgirl is set to stream on HBO Max, with Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah helming the project.
