DC Comics released the first few pages of art from “Hush 2” as well as a promotional trailer featuring Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee.
The publisher is hyping up the upcoming sequel to the beloved Hush story line. They unveiled practically half the issue to showcase Lee’s consistently hyper-detailed art style. But we are also getting more of a taste of the plot. Or at least part of the plot is shown. Despite highlighting a bunch of characters, we ironically do not see Hush himself appear in the preview pages. The pages are also wordless, so we can only surmise the story based on the art alone.
What Is Happening So Far?
It seems that we open with the Joker dumping a ton of Joker fish with sharp teeth into the Gotham River. Batman makes short work of the henchmen, but not due to his crimefighting prowess pursue. It looks like that the Joker rigged the henchmen’s clown mask to immediately start releasing an acidic Joker gas, causing their face to melt? That seems extreme even for the Joker. Speaking of, Batman was weirdly surprised when the Joker takes him down by hitting him in the face with a crowbar off the dock, and into the water.
In the water, Batman is then surrounded by Joker fish who start biting at him. Fortunately, he uses an electric defense to kill all of the fish, but also knocking him unconscious. We then cut to Batman having a video conversation with Nightwing and Batgirl, while he repairs his destroyed Bat-suit. And we see the transition from his traditional badge-less Bat-suit to the one with the yellow badge Bat-symbol. So that is one mystery solved!
Other twists include the Joker meeting with an unknown, hulking man with weird black veins radiating out of his mouth. Whoever he is, he is angry at the Joker. There are also presumably random pages of Batman analyzing a shoe and then another one where Batman is running through a Joker funhouse mirror and breaking through the glass.
What is Hush’s role in all of this? Who is this huge guy who seems to be in league with the Joker? We need to pickup the next issue of Batman to find out!
‘Hush 2’ Trailer Featuring Jim Lee and Jeph Loeb
If the buzz for “Hush 2” wasn’t big enough yet, DC also created a comic book trailer for the story line. In the trailer, Loeb and Lee walk in the most dramatic slow-motion way possible towards a leather couch.
Between their walking, the trailer also inter spliced partially animated images of Lee’s art. Incidentally, I know it is not realistic to have Lee’s art fully-animated due to the insane level of crosshatching and detailing, but this is what I wished the Batman: Hush movie from 2019 looked like.
DC will release“Hush 2” as two 6-issues arcs.
The first part begins when Batman #158 and hits comic shops on March 26. There is no word yet on when part two will come out.
