David Dastmalchian on ‘The Suicide Squad’

David Dastmalchian is known for acting in several comic book films, from The Dark Knight to Ant-Man, playing numerous characters with different appeals. Most recently though, Dastmalchian got the opportunity to portray of the anti-heroes of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Dastmalchian will be Polka Dot Man (real name Abner Krill).

The character is relatively unknown outside of the original source material, despite this, he’s one of the highly anticipated new characters being introduced to the project. Out of all the new members of the Suicide Squad, I’m personally most excited about seeing this colorful fiend! The fact that Dastmalchian will play the character only increases that excitement.

On The Suicide Squad

In a recent interview, Dastmalchian revealed that he’s had the opportunity to see the film he’s starring in. His quotes about this summer’s most anticipated blockbuster have us tingling with anticipation:

I have just gotten to see the film and it’s so incredible, so mind-blowing, so beautiful, so brutal and so bold, I cannot wait for people to get to see the film. It’s something that is gonna be, I think, audiences will be roaring, and I can’t wait to get to see it live in a theater with audiences.

Dastmalchian isn’t the only actor singing The Suicide Squad‘s praises. Several other stars of the film have had the opportunity to see the project, but they’ve all said great things about it. The raving that the blockbuster is receiving from the cast is incredibly encouraging. While the stars of a film are often biased about their projects, the actors and filmmakers have unilaterally been very supportive of the movie and James Gunn’s vision.

On Polka Dot Man and James Gunn’s impact

While Dastmalchian wouldn’t reveal too much about his character in the movie, he revealed his own excitement for people to meet his version of Abner Krill/ Polka Dot Man:

I’m excited to let the audience discover what Abner is all about when they go see the film because there’s so much that’s going to be a fun, surprising part of the experience of seeing him.

Most of all, the actor described what he feels the film brings to society and for viewers in terms of values.

I will say that a band of others, a band of outsiders, a band of people who for all intents and purposes have been discarded by society, having an opportunity to do something, whether it’s by their will or not, is a fascinating story to tell. And I’m just so lucky that I get to be a part of the vision of James Gunn. It’s really otherworldly.

It’s hard to believe that The Suicide Squad is just two months away! Patience is a virtue, but we’re incredibly impatient for the film to arrive.

The Suicide Squad will debut in theaters and on HBO Max on August 6, 2021.
