Margot Robbie has done tons of interviews regarding playing Harley Quinn, but one question caught our eye. What would Joaquin Phoenix’s version of the Joker meeting Margot Robbie’s version of Harley Quinn look like? On the surface it may seem to be a simple question. However, given all the focus and growth Harley Quinn has experienced in the last few years, it’s a great one.

Robbie joked, in a recent interview, that the grounded, gritty Arthur Fleck, who struggled with his inner demons and only eventually collapsed into being The Joker, would have descended into madness a lot faster if he’d had Harley around, bringing her bizarre antics and heightened reality into his world. Apparently, Robbie doesn’t imagine that Harley’s therapeutic skills would be of any value to ol’ Arthur.

The interview, from Capitol FM, was with Margot Robbie and co-star Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Winstead will play Helena Bertinelli – The Huntress – in the Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn, after memorable TV appearances on Birds of Prey and Arrow. We also get Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez), and Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco) in Gotham City.

The Breakdown

While in agreement that Harley would be of no help to Phoenix’s Joker, there is much to speculate. The two characters are in vastly different places in their lives. Arthur Fleck is undergoing his transformation into what will eventually be the Joker. Harley Quinn is experiencing her life at the beginning stages of no longer being in a relationship with the Clown Prince of Crime.

Given that alone, it’s realistic that we would see Fleck’s develop up a lot quicker. At this point in her life, Harley is becoming who she wants to be. Her life no longer includes romantic feelings for a man, who by all accounts, never knew her true worth. While it would be interesting to see the two interact, looking at their different universes, they were never meant to meet.

With the release of Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn just around the corner, it will be wonderful to see Harley in a new light on the big screen. This is a side of her that we’ve only seen in the comics, started by Amanda Connor and Jimmy Palmiotti, as well as in the recent DC Universe animated series Harley Quinn.

We may never know what would happen if these two great versions of these classic characters met, but we will get to see the new Harley as she makes her way in Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn in theaters from February 7th.

What are your thoughts, though? What do you think would happen if these two character iterations were to meet? Let us know in the comments below!
