“Rocket To Russia” – Part One

Writer: Rob Williams

Artists: Diogenes Neves & Scott Hanna

After the events of Suicide Squad issue 35, Rick Flag left leading Taskforce X in order to join the government run operation around The Wall. After having had enough with the way Amanda Waller runs her operation, Flag ended up moving to, what he thought, were greener pastures. As is the case with most things Suicide Squad, he wasn’t allowed to be away for long.

A mysterious voice demanded the attendance of a certain team of morally ambiguous misfits, Rick Flag included.

The Beginnings Of A Mystery

There is a lot happening behind the scenes in this issue. A lot of mystery and intrigue, as we’re left with a lot of unanswered questions by the final panel. This is a fantastic first chapter of what looks to be a very promising story. As Williams has done multiple times when writing a Suicide Squad comic, I’m sure that some comments or throwaway appearances will come back as major plot points.

Yet another issue of Suicide Squad and yet another artistic team. There has been some wonderful artwork in Suicide Squad, this issue however, falls back into a type of art that doesn’t really suit the feel of the comic. Diogenes Neves and Scott Hanna do incredible work with the character pieces, their facial expressions are simply beautiful. Their set pieces, however, leave a little something to be desired.

Conclusion

Another brilliant part one of what looks to be set up for a fascinating run that may shake the foundations of Suicide Squad even further, and oh my gosh… what a cliff hanger of ending!
