NYCC 2018: DC Releases Trailer for ‘Titans’, Shows the Team Forming an Alliance, Reveals Upcoming Additions to DC Universe

On Thursday, DC held the world premiere of Titans at New York Comic-Con 2018. While the fan opinion has been mixed, the show has been renewed for a second season. I was expecting unanimous hate, so I’ll take a lukewarm reception.

While the attendees of NYCC got to see the first episode, the Internet at large got yet another new trailer featuring the Titans coming together and forming an “Alliance.”

Take a look:

Raven’s Destiny

While the character promos that were released last week showcased some lighthearted moments of the show, this trailer is all about the grittiness that we’ve come to expect from a DC production, especially when the trailer is set to something as moody and dark as Marilyn Manson’s cover of “Cry Little Sister.” As expected, the clip sets out the plot for Raven and her ultimate destiny. As we know from Marv Wolfman and George Perez’s Terror of Trigon arc, Raven was to bring forth the apocalypse by unleashing the demon Trigon upon the Earth.

While I enjoyed the character promos, this trailer was less impressive. The emphasis on the grittiness of the show comes off a little forced. Sadly the teaser also somehow managed to dissuade my gradual liking of Raven, just when I was slowly getting on board with this incarnation. It somehow manages to show us a lot less than the Netflix trailer from last week. While there is no doubt that I will be watching this series, this trailer did not help.

Titans will premiere on the DC Universe streaming app on Friday, October 12th. If you haven’t yet signed up, be sure to do so by then for our first live-action exclusive series.

More to come

The panel also revealed a few little goodies in store for the future of DC Universe. Check it out below:

  • 1984 classic film Supergirl starring Helen Slater will be released on October 5 and will be available through to the end of 2018. After losing a powerful orb, Kara, Superman’s cousin, comes to Earth to retrieve it and finds herself up against a wicked witch.

  • In 2019 DC Universe original animated movies Reign of The Supermen, Justice League vs. The Fatal Five, and Batman: Hush will join the DC UNIVERSE service.

  • David Goyer’s live-action series Krypton will also premiere on DC UNIVERSE in 2019. Season 1 previously aired on the SYFY network and will now become available to DC UNIVERSE members. Set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, Krypton follows Superman’s grandfather — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.

  • Created exclusively for DC UNIVERSE, a new prequel comic book for Young Justice: Outsiders will accompany the exclusive original animated series in 2019 and will be created by producer Greg Weisman and artist Christopher Jones.

  • Additionally, new comics being released in October on DC UNIVERSE include New Teen Titans (#13 – #20) from 10/2 – 10/15 and New Teen Titans (#21 – #41) from 10/16 – 10/29, Batman: The Long Halloween from 10/23 – 11/5, and Batman: Dark Victory from 10/30 – 11/12.

It’s great to see the upcoming DC original movies going straight to the app. That way, I don’t have to go out of my way to rent or purchase them. However, I’m mostly anticipating the prequel comic book to Young Justice: Outsiders. If you didn’t know by now, Young Justice is one of my favorite animated DC cartoons. I’ve been (im)patiently awaiting season 3 for years now. A comic book telling us what our favorite NOT sidekicks have been doing since the season 2 has me really excited.

Here at DKN, you can tell that we adore Batman: The Long Halloween, so this is exciting news for us. While most of us have read it already, it’ll be awesome to see it available on a mainstream platform. Of course, it’s apropos because of the season. Check out our reviews of each chapter of the Long Halloween.

Also, don’t forget the upcoming Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing, and Harley Quinn animated series, which DC also just teased recently.
