Warner Home Video announced an upcoming release of DVD double feature collecting episodes of The New Adventures of Batman and The New Adventures of Superman animated series. All 16 episodes from The New Adventures of Batman, originally airing in 1977, and all 36 episodes from The New Adventures of Superman, from 1966, will be collected together for the first time.
‘THE NEW ADVENTURES OF BATMAN’: THE COMPLETE SERIES
Adam West and Burt Ward reprised their roles as animated version of Batman and Robin, originally produced by Filmation Associates. Although the series only lasted a season, it currently holds a 7.2 rating on IMDB with mainly good reviews from users. The plot follows Batman, Robin and Batgirl as they battle various villains in Gotham City. Complicating things however is the presence of Batmite, an other-dimensional imp who considers himself the biggest fan of Batman and insists on helping him, regardless of whether Batman wants it or not.
The show was unique in the sense that it marks a rare occurrence in animation history—two studios simultaneously producing series featuring the same characters. Hanna-Barbera was producing the competing series, Super Friends, which also included Batman and Robin. The New Adventures of Batman couldn’t use The Riddler, despite him being in the intro, because the rights to the character were being used by Hanna-Barbera in Challenge of the Superfriends.
The DVD collection, which also includes The New Adventures of Superman, will cost $19.98 (US) and be released February 13, 2018. Official synopsis below.
