In this month’s issue of Empire Magazine we get even more information regarding the tone of the upcoming Justice League movie.

Rumors that Joss Whedon is heavily influencing the tone of the movie has many wondering what is left of Zack Snyder’s original vision? It appears that Ben Affleck has the answer.

Affleck has been very vocal about his belief that this will be something of a course correction for the DCU. After the response to Batman v Superman being overly dark, he had this to say about the follow-up.

Zack wanted to make a movie that is more fun, that was a little bit lighter, that wasn’t so encumbered with heavy melodrama.

Is Justice League a reaction to Batman v Superman?

Affleck then addressed the criticisms of his first appearance in the DC Cinematic Universe.

“I can understand people saying (Batman vs Superman) was too dark, or this was outside the tone of what I’m used to seeing as a Batman story, and I think that’s a fair criticism” Ben admitted. “But this was all scripted and set up before the movie came out. The approach was changed anyway for the second one. It was a natural progression.”

Justice League

It appears that Snyder’s plan was to make Justice League a lighter and more enjoyable movie from the beginning. Since production started on the movie, both Zack and Ben have been telling fans to expect a lighter movie. It appears they are following through on that promise.

But perhaps the most telling clue to what the tone of this film lies right here with Affleck stating:

You get to see Batman smile, for the first time!

Justice League opens 16th of November 2017
